Socially engaged event

Galleri Blunk, Trondheim, Norway

2023

The area Svartlamon in Trondheim is described as an alternative neighborhood with a focus on sustainability, inclusiveness, and creativity. During the 1990’s Svartlamon became a highly debated neighborhood when the car dealership Strandveien Auto wanted to expand in the area, and the municipality wanted to demolish most of the buildings. Svartlamon beboerforening and Svartlamon boligstiftelse were created as a way of preserving the buildings. Svartlamon boligstiftelse rents most of the buildings in the area from the Municipality, and in December 2022 the lease was extended by 35 years, which is the longest extension thus far.

To highlight this, I wanted to create an event at the local gallery, Galleri Blunk, and invite the residents of Svartlamon, and everyone else as well, to celebrate. The intention was to create a social and inclusive space that inspired conversations and storytelling.

I provided pens, paper, coffee, and cake and everyone who joined the event was encouraged to draw or write something related to Svartlamon or Blunk on a piece of paper and hang it on the gallery walls. It could be a memory, a story, or simply a drawing of their surroundings. The event became a collective exhibition.
